Our Traveling Experiences – Unagis Travel: Paradise to Camp Muir

Paradise to Camp Muir

Paradise to Camp Muir is in the books!
It took us 6 hrs on the way up. 2 hours on the way down.
Close to 5,000 calories burnt. Backpack weight: 40lb or ~18.2kg.
Camp Muir is the highest point that hikers are allowed to
reach without a climbing permit.

People attempting to summit Mt. Rainier will either spend the
night in the shelter or setup tents here. Camp Muir's approx. Elevation is
10,000 ft or 3,050 meters above sea level. The crater of Mt Rainier is about
14,500 ft or 4420 meters.

I have wanted to do this hike for so long and I finally did
it.

Snow was very soft to the point that without snowshoe it
covered anywhere between the knee and the waist. With snowshoes it was better
but still very slippery in the way down and on very steep terrain.

I was able to practice self-arrest with the ice axe. Sliding
down in the snow was so much fun!

Some pictures from the hike.
